Happy 4th of July!

Surely our forefathers never intended our nation's independence to be celebrated on a Wednesday?  Despite it's lame middle of the week status it should be a fun day starting with the Patriot's Parade on Main Street.  We will be open until noon so join us at our corner of B and Main. We have the perfect location for you to watch the parade and enjoy some air conditioning when you need a break from the 100 degree heat.

Looking for a recipe for a quick side dish to bring to a cookout tomorrow?  This  Watermelon Salad recipe looks like it could be a hit.  I'm ADDICTED to watermelon!  Usually I'm quite happy to have it on it's own or with just a touch of salt but in an attempt to appear fancy I think I'll give this a try.

It's impossible to avoid fireworks on the 4th so why even try? Finish your day by watching the Fireworks Extravaganza at the Fairgrounds or live dangerously and shoot them yourself.  If it's the latter please exercise a little bit of caution, nothing complicates making a fabulous meal like losing an appendage or two.

Fifty Shades Of Fiestaware

I thought I'd take a break from reading a certain popular book series and mention we have some new colors in Fiestaware.  The total number of colors in is actually a bit less than fifty, but still a lot! We've recently added Plum and Marigold and will soon have the brand new color Flamingo.
For some reason they are still not making a shade of Grey....

Is it getting hot out or is it just me?  Here's a tip on how to cool off:
Forget toting around bulky reusable water bottles (which can be a hassle) and disposable bottles (which are a waste), might I suggest checking out our selection of Vapur Anti-Bottles?

The clips on the side of the bottle keep your hands free by perfectly attaching to bike handles, backpacks or beltloops. When you finish your drink either refill and carry on or flatten and roll it up until you can toss it in the dishwasher!  They come in several vibrant colors but I think we are once again shy of the Fifty mark.

Hope to see you in Apron Strings "sooners" rather than "laters"!

First Kids' Cooking Class!

My 5 year old twins attended our first Children's Cooking Class on Tuesday!  Kids combined and mixed the ingredients for a giant cupcake (with a hidden tie-die center) and even made their own frosting.  My girls had fun, learned about baking and didn't cause any major kitchen disasters!   Tho the most exciting part to the kids seemed to be licking the frosting off their piece of cupcake.
We have more children's classes coming up so check out our schedule to see when to sign your kids up.

In unrelated news I went to a concert last night.  Civil Twilight and Young the Giant at the Cotillion in Wichita. I had a great time and got to meet Civil Twilight!! I mentioned this was unrelated right?

Sidewalk Sale This Third Thursday!

Come see us tomorrow for Third Thursday. Downtown will be full of music, art and good deals from 5-9pm.  It is also the last day of our sidewalk sale so stock up on our discounted gadgets and linens while you can!

In even bigger news next week is my birthday!  I'm not much of a cake person but cheesecake on the other hand... This is the recipe that my Sister-In-Law Deanna made last Easter, it nearly brought tears to my eyes it was so good. I highly recommend trying it out and maybe bringing a slice or two by the store for me to taste.  With it's red and blue berries it would make a nice treat to go along with your Memorial Day celebrations.

We have a FREE Demonstration on Fried Rice & Coconut Almond Bites this Saturday, May 19th at 2pm. The recipe is from "The Gathering of Friends" Cookbooks that we have available. Ready for light, fresh, tropical flavors? We'll be sharing food, tips and recipes in the Apron Strings kitchen.

Happy Cuatro de Mayo!

Why wait till tomorrow to start celebrating Cinco de Mayo?  I have some limes and red wine and am trying to hold off till 5pm... maybe 4:30 to mix them with Citrus Punch Sangria mix by Pelican Bay.  In the mean time, I'll be eating close to my body weight in Avocados.  They're good on their own, but try this recipe with chips or on a sandwich. Personally, I go with less onions and add cilantro, but it's pretty much impossible to screw up guacamole.   Well, with the exception being if you wanted to add horseradish.  That would be ridiculous.

We have a few remaining open spots for the Spiegelau Beer Tasting Event that we are hosting at City Beverage on May 15th.  It should be a fun evening of beer tasting and glassware education. With your registration you will receive a set of 4 Spiegelau Tasting Glasses which normally retail at $49.99!

Class fee is only $30!  Pre registration is required.  Must be 21.

Kids Summer Cooking Classes

Get the kids out of the house this summer and have them make their own lunch while they're at it! Starting in June we will have childrens cooking classes. Some dates are already listed on our calendar but check back often to catch our updates. We will keep the class size small so everyone gets personal interaction.

Have you seen our thermal lunch sacks? Priced from $14.99 + in a wide variety of patterns. Food always tastes better if it's fashionably accessorized!
Maybe after your kids learn to make something fabulous at one of our classes they can keep it the perfect temperature until they give it to you?!
